The 4 Bears Casino and Lodge, celebrating its 25th year, continues to be a good investment for the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation.
“We loaned the casino the capital they needed and they have never missed a payment,” said MHA Chairman Mark Fox. “We need to continue to build upon this investment.”
In 2016, the North Dakota legislature threatened to allow up to six private casinos, a move largely seen as a retaliation for the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. Chairman Fox said the tribe lobbied vigorously and effectively to defeat this legislation but is worried it could come back again.
“The real solution is to make the 4 Bears Casino the best destination for families in North Dakota,” Chairman Fox said.
There is a plan underway for future expansion, but the details are not finalized yet.
In the last expansion the Events Center took on its current form, 4-Bear Casino added a smoking parlor and about 100 new machines and a ballroom.
Pat Packineau said the expansion was “just the right size. Anything larger would have been more labor intensive and harder to staff.”
